Arkadelphia Duo Plans to Stay Together

Arkansas’ best prep football duo plans to stay together at the collegiate level.
Arkadelphia seniors — quarterback Jakahari Howell (6-0, 175) and running back Kris Oliver (5-10, 175) — have helped Arkadelphia to a 7-0 record (they play 6-1 Ashdown Friday night) and a No. 1 ranking in Class 4A.
Howell (4.53 speed), a 20012 Landers Award nominee, has racked up 1,547 passing yards and 17 touchdowns. He missed part of last season with an injury. Oliver (4.5 speed), a 2013 Landers Award finalist, has 1,033 rushing yards and 16 scores. He subbed in at quarterback last year when Howell went down.
In addition to racking up wins this fall, the two have visited prospective colleges trying to decide where they will play college football.
“Jakahari and I want to play together,” says Oliver, who is also an all-state point guard on the Badgers basketball team. “We thought it would be a good idea to play another four or five years together. We’ve been friends since we were little, and we are together all the time. I’m either at his house, or he is at mine.”
So far, hometown Division II programs Ouachita Baptist and Henderson State have offered Oliver and Howell scholarships, as has Harding. The two also have offers from Central Arkansas and Missouri State. Oliver says Arkansas State is also showing interest. UCA is currently the favorite because of “how they score so many points.”

The two should have more offers coming if they continue racking up yards on a potential deep Arkadelphia playoff run.
